Verinext was unveiled as the new brand identity for Anexinet + Veristor. The rebrand is a result of the merger of Anexinet Corporation and Veristor Systems, Inc. in February 2022. The new brand captures the essence of truth, passion and innovation, guiding digital transformations that prepare customers for what’s next.

“Since merging the people and capabilities of Anexinet and Veristor, we have been overwhelmed by the incremental value of our synergies,” said Brian Glahn, CEO of Verinext. “Together we have become a powerhouse technology innovator and solution provider with the unique ability to deliver end-to-end solutions with a personal, customer-centric touch. We’re excited about our new brand and how it positions us for the next stage in our growth.”

Anexinet Corporation and Veristor Systems, Inc. announced their merger in February 2022, a move which doubled the companies’ geographic reach, customer base and solution delivery teams. Now operating as Verinext, the unified company offers expertise across the complete technology landscape and delivers the superior technical experience customers need to make informed decisions in today’s complex digital world.

The Verinext brand uses the “veri” prefix, which is the Latin root for truth, a core value of the combined Verinext company. It also leverages the Anexinet-inspired “next” to support the message that Verinext is the source of technology truth to solve for everything that comes next.

Verinext integrates four leading technology solution innovators, Anexinet and Veristor as well as Light Networks and SereneIT, which were acquired by Anexinet prior to merging with Veristor. Together, the company offers a comprehensive suite of intelligent, full-stack engagement strategies and solutions with modern, secure infrastructure products and services. Verinext activates the innovation that businesses need to make their next move with confidence.

Veristor Systems, Inc. and Randori announced they have partnered to help customers tackle growing attack surface risks. Together, the companies will support companies as they work to enhance their security posture with a unified platform for attack surface management (ASM) and continuous automated red teaming (CART).

According to a recent Randori survey, seven in 10 organizations have been compromised via an unknown, unmanaged or poorly managed internet-facing asset in the past year. To prepare for this challenge, it can take organizations more than 80 hours to build an accurate picture of their attack surface risk. This has made external attack surface management the number one security investment priority for large enterprises in 2022.

“With the increase in remote work and broader application of digital transformation projects, attack surface management has become a core requirement for organizations as they build out their security strategy to limit their risk exposure,” said Brian Yost, Director, Cyber Security Strategy, Veristor.  “Randori’s Attack Surface Management solution helps organizations rise above traditional vulnerability and asset management solutions to provide enterprises the visibility, actionable insights, and validation they need to proactively prevent breaches.”

Today’s news further advances the investment Randori, an IBM company, is making in its partner ecosystem and strengthens its portfolio. “Veristor’s team of security experts provide valuable security strategies and solutions for companies looking to elevate their security posture,” said Gavin Osters, Director of Partner Ecosystem at Randori. “They are an ideal security partner for Randori and we are honored to add them to our growing network of security partners.”

Designed to help security teams zero in on the issues that matter most to their business, Randori Recon takes into account the logic of an adversary, and updates its platform based on the results of real-world attacks. Randori’s patent-pending black box and continuous discovery engine identifies all internet-facing assets visible to an attacker—cloud assets or on-prem—and will alert on any changes discovered (unknown assets, new assets, configuration changes).

The Veristor suite of security solutions now includes Randori’s Attack Surface Management platform, Randori Recon, along with the Randori Continuous and Automated Red Teaming (CART) product. These solutions are now offered as a part of Veristor’s comprehensive range of security solutions that are designed to solve business challenges through the intelligent application of next-generation security technology. If you’ve invested in a backup appliance you may feel that your data is secure and protected. Yes, focusing on a backup and recovery strategy is a vital component of ensuring business availability and resilience. So, kudos to you for implementing this important data protection step. In fact, you’re already well ahead of the game, particularly if you backup data daily. Less than 10% of businesses report backing up data each day.

However, simply backing up data to an appliance that is within your own domain may still be putting your critical information at risk. It may seem like keeping your data close to you inside your own firewall is a safer and more controlled approach to data protection and retention. But you may want to think again.

Backup Data is a Threat Target

The risk of ransomware breaking into your domain is high. Black Hat reports that 67% of organizations believe they’ll experience a major security breach within a year. If your backup data is retained on the same domain as your users and other applications and services you risk the contamination of your backup data as well as your production data in the event of a ransomware attack.

It is also important to note that backup data is a high value target for cybercrime. Threat actors know that if they can hold your backup data hostage, it eliminates your ability to use it to recover and you’ll likely be even more motivated to pay the ransom.

This is an important point when developing your business continuity strategy. Simply put, if you can’t use your backups to restore your environment, especially if ransomware hits, what good is performing backups in the first place?

Risky Behavior

What are the points of vulnerability that make keeping your backup data inside your domain a dangerous decision? First, it’s where you also hold all of your user names and passwords. If your backup data lives in the same domain with your user credentials, you may just give cyber criminals the keys to your data kingdom. An advanced threat can easily break in, poke around and find all the necessary details needed to unlock data retained in your backups.

Furthermore, backups inside your domain are also inside the same authentication domain as all of your users. It would be exceptionally easy for ransomware to bypass your authentication measures once inside your environment.

Getting inside your environment is also easy, particularly today with more remote users accessing your environment from unmanaged networks and devices. This increases the attack surface for ransomware to break through and once in exposes your backups and prevents recovery.

Additionally, there is very little “air gap” between your production environment and backup appliance when you retain them both in the same domain. This increases the ease and speed of ransomware to penetrate your valuable protected data.

Finally, beyond ransomware there is still the risk of a single point of failure. Even if you use a local backup appliance that aggregates backups and sends them in chunks to the cloud, any device failure brings scheduled backups to a halt. According to Small Business Trends there are 140,000 hard drive failures weekly in the U.S. alone, so this risk isn’t small.

Backup-as-a-Service: A Secure Alternative

For the most secure data protection and backup strategy, consider implementing a backup-as-a-service (BaaS) solution. Here data is flexibly and securely protected with the off-site remote backups you need to defend against ransomware while also meeting compliance and business continuity requirements. BaaS will give you the protection of a wide “air gap” between your domain and your backup data so ransomware can’t easily hop from your production environment to contaminate backup data. Plus, data is secured behind a dedicated host and separate authentication process so security breakthroughs are next to impossible.

Make your backup process truly valuable by defending your backup data from ransomware contamination so that is ready and available to restore when you need recovery most. Don’t place data at risk in your own domain, consider BaaS as the alternative to ensure you are protecting data with ultimate reliability.

Award-winning Credit Union Counts on Aruba Wired and Wireless Network to Deliver New Modern, Efficient, and Seamless Services Across All Locations

Aruba announced that Alabama ONE, has deployed an Aruba ESP (Edge Services Platform) wired and wireless network to provide reliable, high-performing Wi-Fi and new, technology-enabled experiences throughout their branch locations. Ranked Best-in-State Credit Union in 2020 by Forbes Magazine, Alabama ONE is a member-owned organization serving 22 counties across the state. The organization was also voted Tuscaloosa’s Best Place to Work (2020-2021), Tuscaloosa’s Best Investment Firm (2019-2021), Tuscaloosa’s Best Mortgage Lender (2018-2021), and Tuscaloosa’s Best Insurance Agent (2019-2021).

As Alabama ONE expands their footprint with new branch locations, they simultaneously wanted to add services that would improve efficiency at branch sites for both members and employees. “We were looking for a networking solution that could help us bring new branch locations online quickly and easily,” said Bobby Umfress II, Director of IT Infrastructure & Operations at Alabama ONE. “We also needed a solution that could support new member-focused services such as iPad usage for loan applications and cash withdrawals.”

In collaboration with trusted technology partner Veristor, Alabama ONE selected and deployed a future-ready wireless network comprised of Aruba Wi-Fi 6 indoor access points. For wired networking, Alabama ONE implemented Aruba’s access switches at the edge and CX Series switches for aggregation and in the data center. Aruba EdgeConnect was selected as their SD-WAN solution. Additionally, Alabama ONE uses ClearPass for network access control (NAC) and policy management, and Aruba Central for cloud-based network management and operations.

“One of the benefits of having Aruba’s EdgeConnect solution is that we’re not reliant on a specific provider to get connectivity into the branch site, which allows us to be more agile and move faster,” said Umfress. “For example, we purchased a branch from another financial institution, and less than five days later, we opened up as Alabama ONE. That was our fastest turnaround for an acquisition.”

Aruba ESP provided the foundational functionality to allow Alabama ONE to move to a more proactive – rather than reactive – automated network. Aruba’s turnkey AI-powered solution enables Alabama ONE to improve efficiency and overall end-user quality of experience, as well as realize cost savings. “Once we started looking at deploying SD-WAN, the cost savings that we were going to reap over that first year repaid the entire cost of the solution,” explained Umfress.

Looking to the future, Alabama ONE is testing new member services, including a feature that allows members to sit in a private waiting area where they can work productively instead of just spending their time waiting in line. Branch employees equipped with iPads will proactively go to the waiting member when it’s their turn. They can conduct business with the member from the iPad, instead of being tethered to a workstation. Alabama ONE is also preparing to deploy video solutions at branches that would allow customers to meet virtually with a loan officer who might be physically located at another branch.

“C-level management is always coming up with new ways to better serve our members and now that we have the right infrastructure, we can support them,” said Umfress.
