Netwrix launched a new, SaaS-based solution for managed service providers (MSPs) and continues to improve enhancing data security across all five NIST Functions, and has upgraded a third of its product portfolio within the past six months.

Netwrix has released new versions for five products since September 2022 and launched a new SaaS-based auditing solution tailored for MSPs. Netwrix keeps enhancing its portfolio to help identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover from cyber threats aimed at any organization’s most valuable asset — its data.

Solutions with notable key enhancements include the following:

  • Data access governance solution — Netwrix Data Classification 5.7 now streamlines the configuration of security controls across SQL databases and speeds up the classification of large amounts of data by first scanning the metadata associated with the files.
  • Active Directory (AD) security solution — Netwrix StealthINTERCEPT 7.3.7 protects customers from LDAP Nom Nom, a recently discovered brute-force technique that can enumerate usernames in Active Directory anonymously without leaving any logs. In addition, Netwrix Recovery for AD 2.5 (previously known as Netwrix StealthRECOVER) further simplifies AD disaster recovery with AD forest recovery and ensures the secure storage of encrypted AD forest backups.
  • Privileged access management (PAM) solution — Netwrix Privilege Secure 4.0 (previously Netwrix SbPAM) further reduces the attack surface and expands its first-to-market zero standing privilege approach to databases, ensuring that privileged accounts exist for only as long as needed. In addition, the PAM solution now includes the ability to discover and remediate privileged accounts sprawl to endpoints to stop lateral movement.
  • Identity and access management (IAM) solution — Netwrix Password Reset 3.3 became more secure with a protocol upgrade and the option to allow only encrypted communication between it and Netwrix Password Policy Enforcer.

In addition, Netwrix launched a new multi-tenant, software-as-a-service auditing product Netwrix 1Secure designed to meet the needs of MSPs. It enables easy management of numerous tenants from a single console and accelerates incident detection and response.

“More than 850 employees across 35 countries keep evolving the Netwrix product portfolio. Within the last half year alone, we released a new product along with five current product upgrades. We also extended our offering with a new IAM solution, thanks to the most recent acquisitions. And we are not slowing down: For example, this year we plan to release an improved PAM solution that integrates several of our existing products,” said Steve Dickson, CEO of Netwrix.

About Netwrix
Netwrix makes data security easy. Since 2006, Netwrix solutions have been simplifying the lives of security professionals by enabling them to identify and protect sensitive data to reduce the risk of a breach, and to detect, respond to and recover from attacks, limiting their impact. More than 13,000 organizations worldwide rely on Netwrix solutions to strengthen their security and compliance posture across all three primary attack vectors: data, identity, and infrastructure.

Platform9  announced a number of new enterprise features that greatly eliminate operational complexities in managing multi-cluster and multicloud Kubernetes deployments. Key advances include the Profile Engine for template-based cross-cluster governance, IDE enhancements for fast access to running workloads, user-specified upgrade strategies, KubeVirt enhancements, and CIS Benchmarking compliance.

“Focused on multicloud governance, security, and ease-of-use features, this product release further simplifies Kubernetes by introducing new developer-focused features that enable instant access to any running Pod, Deployment, or Service,” said Madhura Maskasky, Platform9 co-founder and VP of Product. “The result is tangible and significant productivity gains through the simplicity of consistent single-pane-of-glass management and governance.”

With Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK), users can easily create upstream Kubernetes clusters using the SaaS platform, on bare metal, AWS, and Azure IaaS layer, and with a few clicks, import clusters from EKS, AKS, and GKE.

Featured updates in this release include:

GitOps Profile Engine: Profile Engine enables GitOps style automation in multicloud environments by allowing administrators to define cluster configurations as desired state templates, and then deploy those to any target cluster. The deployment process updates the target cluster’s state to ensure it conforms to the profile. Comparison and drift analytics are built in to detect changes from compliant configurations so users can take appropriate corrective actions. By treating cluster configuration via declarative profiles, which can be treated as versioned source code, it is easier to provision multiple clusters for new applications or teams, to rebuild clusters, or to compare clusters and analyze differences. Furthermore, the Profile Engine ensures consistency, compliance, and standardization to combat sprawl, security holes, and a lack of policy conformance.

Upgrade Strategies: Customers want flexibility in how and when they upgrade their clusters in production. This release provides three options to upgrade:

  • Sequential: Worker nodes are upgraded in sequence in a rolling fashion
  • Parallel Percentage: Users can specify a percentage of nodes to be upgraded simultaneously
  • Batch: Users can manually select nodes

Storage Classes/PV/PVC/CSI Drivers: This release provides comprehensive drill-down views of objects across all cluster types, providing unparalleled visibility into storage details directly in the UI. Adding a new storage class is easy with the auto-detection of CSI drivers for one-click deployment of persistent storage.

KubeVirt Enhancements: Platform9 Managed KubeVirt enables users to run both legacy VM applications and containers on a fully managed unified platform. This new release introduces a management UI and wizard-based configuration and provisioning so that users can easily create VMs, attach disk(s), start/stop VM instances, view instance details, and much more all with a few clicks.

CIS Benchmark: Platform9 is now CIS Benchmark compliant, extending our security posture that includes SoC2 compliance, encrypted networking between Clusters, Pods, and Nodes, encryption at-rest, and ZeroTrust SaaS architecture.

Other significant updates include a 10x improvement in UI performance and responsiveness; drill-down details on storage, pods, deployments, and services views; logs, events across all cluster types; support for Kubernetes 1.21 and containerd.

All of these advances are paired with Platform9’s unique SaaS-based closed-loop automation–including deployment, monitoring, alerting, self-healing, and proactive troubleshooting and support–that guarantees 99.9% multicluster, multicloud SLA. Platform9’s 100% CKA certified solution architects and customer success teams operate as an extension of customers’ SRE and DevOps teams providing in-depth K8s on-demand Kubernetes expertise and proactively resolving issues 24/7/365.

DoControl announced a new report, Quantifying the Immense Risk of Unmanaged SaaS Data Access, which highlights how the vast amounts of unmanaged data in today’s enterprises has led to a growing number of insider and external threats to global organizations. With 40% of all SaaS assets unmanaged, there is a greater degree of internal, external, and public access to sensitive data.

According to Gartner, global SaaS revenue will grow by nearly 38% to more than $140 billion between 2019 and 2022. Although cloud-based applications dramatically increase the efficiency and productivity throughout an enterprise, there is a significant threat that is often underestimated by CIOs and CISOs: the unchecked and unmanaged data access by the SaaS provider. And with the growing adoption of SaaS applications, this threat is growing exponentially, putting companies at greater risk for data leaks.

As a benchmark, the average 1,000-person company stores between 500K to 10M assets in SaaS applications. Companies enabling public sharing may unwittingly allow up to 200,000 of these assets to be shared publicly. DoControl aggregated and analyzed data from its customer base, and categorized its key findings by external and insider threat:

  • Insider threats:
    • Of the companies analyzed, an average of 400 encryption keys are shared internally to anyone with a link.
    • 20% of SaaS assets are shared internally with a link, exposing many employees to data points they are not authorized to view.
    • 8% of employees share their corporate account assets with their personal account, exposing company data to employees on an ongoing basis.
  • External threats:
    • Between 1,000 and 15,000 external collaborators (vendors, contractors, customers, partners, prospects, media, analysts, etc.) have access to company data.
    • Between 200 and 3,000 external (specifically third-party) companies have access to company assets.
    • 18% of SaaS application assets are shared externally and remain shared externally even after deleting users.

“The past year forced many organizations to collaborate with many external parties and adjust their existing workforce to support remote collaboration,” said Adam Gavish, CEO and Co-Founder of DoControl. “To date, security practitioners have focused on enabling SaaS access in a secure manner, but now is the time to prioritize the relevancy of this data access internally and externally. Unmanageable data access poses a significant risk to any organization and increases the likelihood of a data breach. While SaaS apps are designed to promote collaboration, this also creates an ever-growing attack surface that requires attention to ongoing data access at scale. DoControl is committed to helping organizations ensure that no unauthorized person has access to company data, all without slowing down business enablement or changing the end-user’s day-to-day work.”

Progress, the leading provider of products to develop, deploy and manage high-impact business applications, announced powerful new digital marketing capabilities in the latest release of Progress® Sitefinity InsightSM, a SaaS analytics, personalization and optimization system. The company brings to market enhanced tools to help marketers adapt to the “new normal,” easily pivot and deliver differentiated customer experiences. Progress also announced new enhancements in Progress® Sitefinity® Cloud, an enterprise-grade platform as a service (PaaS) for managing digital experience and improving operational efficiency.

While adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic reality, many organizations encountered reduced resources and budget and time constraints, which stalled digital innovation. Without the proper support, many marketers had to deliver campaigns based on assumptions of digital performance and persona preferences, missing out on opportunities to effectively target highly engaged prospects and build personalized marketing campaigns. To take marketing to the next level, drive campaign ROI and meet modern consumer demands, marketers must gather data from multiple touchpoints and then rapidly act upon it. Often this effort requires significant time and IT resources, making it impossible for companies to respond quickly to market dynamics and campaign performance.

Sitefinity Insight bridges the marketing data gaps, giving marketers access to real-time data and analytical insights to create tailored campaigns and adjust them as they run based on audience behavior. Providing in-depth intel into persona profiles and lead scores, Sitefinity Insight enables the creation of targeted programs and offerings to the right set of prospects to quickly engage and convert them to customers. Fully integrated with the Progress® Sitefinity® Digital Experience Platform (DXP), it offers a cloud-enabled, scalable architecture that delivers market-leading usability, freeing IT from managing the infrastructure, leaving time for mission-critical projects, and boosting marketing productivity to innovate.

“Our recent industry research shows that nearly 70% of business leaders struggle to address the rising digital experience expectations and to deliver engaging, seamless experiences,” said John Ainsworth, SVP, Core Products, Progress. “They need the right technology with low complexity, cost and resources. Progress is the right partner on this journey, giving superior ease of use, the power of data and speed and personalization in the hands of marketers and IT.”

New capabilities and features in Sitefinity Insight include:

  • Comprehensive Conversion Attribution Modeling: Automatically discover which interactions have the most impact on conversions and your KPIs with AI-powered attribution modeling.
  • Advanced Lead Scoring Rules: Target the right leads at the right time to maximize sales opportunities and wins, eliminating the need to overinvest on multiple touches for leads that have already converted or are at the beginning of their journey.
  • Modernized Audience Intelligence: Identifies the topics and touchpoints that are most effective in engaging audiences, splice attribution by first touch or last touch and leverage those learnings to deliver even better experiences across organic, paid, social and more.
  • Detailed Video Performance Tracking: Enables users to identify what makes their video content stand out amongst the crowd and capitalize on those learnings to drive video engagement.

“With Sitefinity Insight, we’re able to learn more about our customers so that we can foster strong, personal relationships,” said Megan Morris, Brand & Experience Manager, Legal & General America. “We are looking forward to using the newest features of Sitefinity Insight, such as the conversion attribution modeling as it will enable us to better understand the journeys of highly engaged visitors to continuously refine and double down on successful marketing strategy.”

Sitefinity Cloud
Progress also introduces simplified domain management in Sitefinity Cloud, enabling site administrators to list, add, remove, and configure domains across available environments.

Redefining productivity, Sitefinity Cloud empowers organizational scale, eliminates the need for infrastructure management and deeply integrates Microsoft Azure services so organizations can focus on their core business. As a resource-efficient PaaS, Sitefinity Cloud frees IT from having to dedicate time, money and resources to website infrastructure management while also providing more flexibility to support innovation and long-term growth plans. Using Sitefinity Insight, an integrated analytics solution that delivers optimized and personalized customer experiences, organizations can streamline digital analysis and content optimization to easily enhance marketing effectiveness.

Facing increased demand for real-time and personalized digital experiences, organizations are turning to virtual assistants and chatbots to engage with consumers in new ways, at any hour. SAS, the global analytics leader, has partnered with the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) to develop a customized virtual assistant to help fraud victims. The virtual assistant is built with SAS® Viya®.

“With advances in conversational AI, chatbots and digital assistants have become mainstream and are being applied across many industries like financial services, retail and healthcare,” said Saurabh Gupta, Senior Director of Data and Analytics at SAS. “Chatbots powered by SAS offer another way to interact with the entire SAS Viya ecosystem, bringing together reporting and visualization, analytics and AI through a no-code, conversational interface to everyone.”

Pandemic-fueled identity crimes tax resources
Demand for live-chat victim support has grown steadily since the ITRC initiated the service in 2014, but 2020 was a year unlike any other.

“We saw record-breaking levels of fraud and identity theft in the wake of the pandemic, which suddenly hit everywhere, all at once,” said ITRC CEO Eva Velasquez. “Last year we served more than 11,000 people through our contact center alone, and our website saw 1.1 million unique visitors. That’s an astounding number of people seeking help – and it requires tremendous workforce effort.

“The idea isn’t to supplant our live advisors but to support and augment them to improve the victim experience. How can we serve more people in real time? And how can we more quickly deliver the information they need and get them on the road to recovery?”

Enter ViViAN, short for Virtual Victim Assistance Network. The ITRC’s new chatbot – or virtual identity theft assistant, as the ITRC prefers.

Conversational AI creates humanlike interactions
Chatbots enable humans to interact with machines using natural language processing (NLP) and instantly get a human-like, intelligent response tailored to the user. Using linguistic rules, machine learning and deep learning, chatbots can interpret complexities in language and improve conversation between human and machine.

These conversational AI – or chatbot – capabilities are embodied in SAS Conversation Designer on the powerful, cloud-native SAS Viya platform. The software delivers the ability to build and configure humanlike conversational experiences and harness data insights for better business decisions.

ViViAN was born through a years-long partnership between the ITRC and SAS and supported through a grant from the Department of Justice’s Office of Victims of Crime. Natural language generation is the humanizing technology behind the chatbot’s development. It combines three specific capabilities to create interactive chatbots like ViViAN that can understand and interact with human language:

  1. Natural language understanding to help decipher what a user types.
  2. Conversation flow to define what is done with that knowledge.
  3. Natural language generation to craft an appropriate response.

“Unstructured text data holds a wealth of insights about your business and your customers, both in terms of opportunities and potential risks,” said Gupta. “Using conversational AI and NLP to harness insights from this data can improve business decisions and build relationships with customers in an increasingly virtual business climate. In ITRC’s case, that means extending a virtual lifeline to more identity-crime victims.”

Helping fraud victims in their hour of need
“We know that fraud never sleeps,” said Velasquez. “You don’t necessarily discover you’re an identity theft victim during regular business hours. You can learn about fraud or have a fraud-related question anytime. And now ViViAN is there to offer trusted, credible, customized help exactly when you need it, day or night.”

ViViAN is programmed to empathetically respond to a variety of scenarios most often encountered by live agents. Users start by entering their identity-related issue, which may include:

  • Someone opened a credit card in my name.
  • I lost my wallet [driver’s license, phone, credit card].
  • I responded to a phishing email.
  • I was unable to file my taxes.
  • Someone filed for unemployment insurance in my name.

Through a series of questions and prompts, ViViAN leads the user through each step toward resolution. Some may find everything they need via a single online interaction. For others, ViViAN is just a starting point.

“Some people will need the expertise of a live agent. Having worked with fraud victims, we know it’s such a relief to get information you can act on while waiting to talk to a real person,” said Velasquez. “ViViAN can provide those first steps, complemented later by that live advisor who will follow up and make sure you’re on the path to recovering your identity.”

The latest release of SAS Viya is designed to be delivered and updated continuously. The cloud-native software enables customers to efficiently democratize analytics throughout their organizations, while seamlessly managing analytic workloads and embedding analytics into variety of operational applications for making confident decisions.

Trend Micro Incorporated  launched a new, co-built SaaS solution with Snyk, the leader in cloud native application security. The first of its kind, it’s designed to provide continuous insight into open source vulnerabilities for enhanced risk management to drive data-driven decisions.

Trend Micro Cloud One – Open Source Security by Snyk is the newest Cloud One service and the first partner addition to the platform, which is available through the channel as well as AWS Marketplace.

This is the first service that provides visibility into open source software vulnerabilities for security operation teams. The use of these open source code components is exploding thanks to the speed, flexibility, extensibility and quality they offer application development teams. According to Snyk, 80% of application code today is open source.

In their Market Guide for Software Composition Analysis, Gartner stated that “Open-source software is used in nearly all organizations. This introduces risks from readily exploitable vulnerabilities; an expanded attack surface through which malware and malicious code can gain access, compromising proprietary code and infrastructure; and legal and intellectual property exposures.”i

Snyk has observed 2.5x growth in open source vulnerabilities over the past three years, making it more necessary than ever to deliver security further into the DevOps pipeline. However, process gaps, mismatched toolsets and communication challenges between SecOps and DevOps are commonplace. Too often, this means security practitioners face an uphill battle and lack visibility into application build-time risks. This cloud service from Trend Micro and Snyk bridges the long-standing cultural challenges between security and development teams with a unified solution that delivers unique visibility sooner in the software development lifecycle to further protect the stack.

“Together Snyk and Trend Micro are investing in the future of the cybersecurity industry, where security and development teams effectively work together to make their organizations safer,” said Geva Solomonovich, Global Alliances CTO for Snyk. “Adding Snyk’s developer-first security technology to Trend Micro’s Cloud One allows more customers to tackle open source risk on a single platform, minimizing the need to manage multiple vendors and tools.  We look forward to our continued collaboration with Trend Micro to foster more innovative, effective ways to solve key security concerns for our customers.”

Almost all applications developed across the world in the last 25 years have been built using open source code. As the pressure to build and deliver new cloud-native applications continues to increase, organizations often lose sight of older applications, their component inventories, and maintenance and update cycles—creating further opacity and risk.

“With this one solution, we’re able to solve several problems and use technology to bridge internal gaps,” said Kevin Simzer, chief operating officer for Trend Micro. “This offering can save over 650 hours of development time per application through increased automation, helps to manage risk and liability with license requirements, and gives security teams visibility into a part of our functional code base that has not been accessible before.”

Trend Micro Cloud One – Open Source Security by Snyk also enables SecOps to identify vulnerabilities and issues related to licensing. This empowers security teams to better monitor, prioritize and communicate risk and exposure rates within DevOps projects over time. This happens with:

  • Data-driven security decisions
  • Continuous monitoring of threat levels
  • Effective prioritization of risks and remediation recommendations

Built-in automation also helps security teams quickly identify and gain awareness of indirect open source dependencies that both security and developer teams may not be aware exist in their applications. Approximately eight hours can be saved per vulnerability through automation and early discovery.

ThinkIQ, a pioneer of digital manufacturing transformation SaaS, announced a new solution VisualOps, which is designed to help organizations obtain easy access to data from a material view, new visibility, and a path towards Industry 4.0 Manufacturing.

ThinkIQ VisualOps™ was created as a second step for companies on the path to Industry 4.0 Manufacturing. The benefits include having your data standardized and available in one location, empowering manufacturing leaders, plant managers, process and data engineers and operators, by allowing them to explore their manufacturing and supply chain data within the context of their business. The new function can also start the process of creating alerts and notifications that may bring problems to immediate attention.

“The addition of VisualOps allows customers to start the journey of monetizing their manufacturing and supply chain data using an Industry 4.0 Platform that will help them achieve their digital transformation goals,” said Niels Andersen, CTO and CPO of ThinkIQ. “This product will help organizations obtain the benefits of Industry 4.0 and lead them on the path to Smart Manufacturing.”

Some of the additional benefits of ThinkIQ VisualOps include:

  • Ability to move companies past raw data to being able to explore, compare, and be aware of the data — with standardized metrics and views to bring wide visibility and context to what is currently just digital bits.
  • Allows organizations to harness the power of what are mostly disconnected existing data streams from IoT, IIoT, HMIs, PLCs, CRM, MES, digitized manual data, and partner data, all into one single location.
  • Includes on-premise gateways & connectors to centralize the data and securely send this data to the cloud, and most clients don’t need to add any new hardware or software to their existing environment.
  • Software includes sourcing existing data from Automation, IoT and IIoT, CRM, and other digital captures, and also includes an equipment profile library, equipment modeling, manufacturing process layout, trending, standardized dashboards, and basic limits & notifications.

ThinkIQ’s SaaS Manufacturing cloud-based platform simplifies the creation of web-based applications and leverages the strengths of the Internet of Things, Big Data, Data Science, Semantic Modeling and Machine Learning. The platform collects data across the operation (existing and IIoT sensors) and leverages AI, ML to provide actionable real time insights (e.g., identify correlations and root causes, traceability and yield issues, etc.). It creates a new level of capability beyond what independent disconnected operating environments can provide today.
